opportunities to survivors, and empower survivors to lead lives with dignity and respect.

(say-va) - selfless service, a physical act performed for the benefit of others in need, "being there as the need arises"-Sri Ravi Shankar.  Yoga and Spiritual Direction cultivate the awareness, presence, resilience, compassion and strength of body, mind and soul that free us to pay attention to the world around us and to engage fully in service when we witness need.

oneness, connection, unification, bringing parts together to make wholeness. Yoga on the mat develops awareness, strength, patience, flexibility, and courage. Everything is inside-out, as our bodies get strong and feel great, we enter a spiritual and devotional practice of understanding that naturally prepares us to step off the mat more whole, more healed, more ready to respond to the world with compassion and love.

heather altman, Rabbi, RYT, Spiritual Director

Heather emerged from nearly 4 years of survival, caring for her once-preemie triplet girls, ready to serve. With a 12 career as a rabbi and 9 years of teaching yoga, she always considered work her way of serving until she realized that service is quite different than helping people feel good and live meaningful lives.  The beneficiary of much generosity through these survival years, she has seen the extraordinary beauty and simple necessity of offering one's time and resources with readiness and generosity.
Heather is a mother of toddler triplet girls and a ten year old s-daughter. She is also a rabbi, yoga instructor and spiritual director. Heather created Tefilla Yoga, which she leads every Shabbat in Chicago, and she teaches Yoga of 12 Step Recovery (Y12SR). She is teaching herself graphic design to create this website.

Heather believes that nobody is free until everybody is free. Aware of the prevalence and pervasiveness of trafficking millions into prostitution and forced labor, she can't help but feel that the millions (estimates range from 21-27 million)of enslaved (85% female, 80% prostituted) are closer to us than we think. The acceptance of this $32 billion business keeps  gender inequity, sexual abuse and violence in our homes too.
